I choose to see—and do—Model United Nations (MUN) differently.

For more than 10 years, I’ve been teaching students to excel in MUN. Excel here isn’t limited to just winning the awards—heck, that’s important!—but also developing both professionally and personally. Indeed, my MUN teaching philosophy has always been grounded on balancing development and winning.

That’s why I established Motion.

Through Motion, I develop MUN teaching materials that culminate in my textbook, The Complete Delegate. I create a training program designed specifically to introduce MUN to all levels of experience, for students across all study disciplines, and for all kinds of expertise.

I’m convinced my teaching philosophy, translated into how I train them, works. My students won awards at some of the most prestigious MUN conferences around the world. Even, some of those award winners won in their first MUN attempt. More than the awards, my students learn what it means to be able to speak confidently in the public, to research on something that’s difficult to understand at first, to write professionally, to negotiate while seeking for compromise. They learn all of those—and more—and that’s why for me, MUN should go beyond the fiery debates or the fancy dresses delegates wear.

Here, I’m sharing what I know about MUN, the insights and learnings that have been useful for my students, and hopefully, are going to be useful for you. I try my best to cover both English and Bahasa Indonesia, so that I can reach both a wider audience and an audience that I share roots with.

Finally, I understand why MUN sometimes get a bad rap. I believe that negative perception is because many are doing MUN wrongly. If done correctly, MUN is one of the best learning platforms where participants can develop professionally and personally. No other academic activity gives this kind of opportunity to learn transferable skills that are useful not just for MUN, but for the life after.
